Taluq Designs is a thriving business located in Taloyoak, a tiny community high above the Arctic Circle. From this highly artistic community comes a strong group of women who take great pride in creating products based on ancient Inuit traditions.

Taluq Packing Doll In the mid-1970’s, a group of Inuit women in Taloyoak formed an organization to market and sell their cultural, textile sculptures known as "packing dolls". Taluq Designs was established in April 1995 and allowed these women to further develop their business for these locally hand-made collectables. They have since expanded their retail line to include other unique Northern inspired wool duffel and plush products, such as the packing Polar Bear designed by renowned doll maker Peeteedootie Ugyuk.

Each wool-duffel packing doll is dressed in a hand-embroidered duffel 'amauti' (parka) with a baby carried in the traditional style - tucked into the space between the wearer's back and the parka. The respective artist signs each packing doll in Inuktitut syllabics.

Taluq Shop (No Large Image Available) Taluq’s building has developed a small section of the business to display and sell products. It was designed as a light manufacturing facility and is set up with a cutting area equipped with an industrial fabric cutter and a hydraulic die cutter, and a sewing area equipped with eight industrial sewing machines. Taluq Designs provides income opportunities directly within the shop to three employees as well as at least a dozen residents who sew finished products in their homes.

Our products can be purchased online through the Arctic Nunavut Online Store.
